I have used split rings on chandelier style earrings to securely assemble the design.

There is a split ring tool that helps a lot, but still, I find it takes a lot of patience.

I have tried silver plated and sterling silver spit rings, found them to be too soft of a metal and too expensive. The split rings I used are nickel, can be found in bags of 500 at a fair price. The trick of using split rings is to not destory the tight spring action by pulling the split ring too wide when putting something onto it.

The split ring tool (shown right side of this photo) greatly helps to place the chandelier drop and earring piece into a split ring. Still it can take a lot of patience in order not to spring the split ring across the room or to stretch out the split ring and make it un-useful for securely holding the earring pieces together. Once I get the split ring started onto the earring piece, I often use a needle nose plier to help turn the split ring until it goes completely into the loop of the earring piece. show placing split ring onto a chandelier drop
